UNRWA High Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini assured that such a decision to suspend financial contributions to UNRWA means that the Agency’s operations will close at the end of February.
Most of Palestinians in Gaza depend on UNRWA which is responsible for managing overcrowded shelters, food assistance and primary health care.
“It’s hard to imagine Gazans surviving this crisis without UNRWA,” Lazzarini said.
UNRWA is made up of nearly 13,000 people, but over 3,000 continue their work under wartime conditions in Gaza.
Lack of funds threatens UNRWA´s operations, following Israel’s accusations linking 12 of its staff to the Hamas actions.
