Prestigious experts to attend Int´l BPO Surgical Conference in Cuba

Havana, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) Attended by prestigious experts in orthopedics and traumatology for the first time, the 2nd International Surgical Conference on Brachial Palsy Obstetrics (BPO) opened on Monday at William Soler Children Hospital.

The majestic event, to be held through next Saturday, opened with the lecture and discussion of five cases of children suffering from BPO, which were preceded by consultations for evaluating candidates for surgical interventions, and will include scientific lectures on children’s nerve microsurgery.

According to Dr. Ismaray Ávila, head of William Soler Children Hospital´s Orthopedics Service, the first day of the event will once again be highlighted by Spaniard Francisco Soldado´s attendance, internationally renowned for his knowledge and experience in hand, pediatric upper extremity and microsurgery.

Ávila detailed that on this occasion other renowned experts in Orthopedics and Traumatology attended the event including Jaime Bertely, one of the most renowned experts in microsurgery worldwide and Scott Kozin, specialist in treating children’s brachial plexus injuries, spinal cord injuries and congenital diseases.

Other notable orthopedic and traumatology professionals from Mexico, Egypt, Belgium, Argentina, Finland, the United States, Bolivia, Venezuela and Germany, among other countries, will also participate in the event.

The specialist stressed that this is the first time these renowned orthopedic specialists meet at an international event, which also gives prestige to Cuba, not only for hosting them, but also because it is an opportunity to complete and acquire concepts, diagnoses and treatments of PBO, practically unknown for pediatric orthopedics in the country.

PBO is a damage caused in childbirth, generally of macro fetuses, during which the nerves of the arm born in the neck are stretched with loss of mobility, that is to say, paralysis of the arm.

Professionals from the William Soler, Frank País, Hermanos Ameijeiras, Cira García and Juan Manuel Márquez Children Hospitals, as well as Cuban and foreign residents of the Orthopedics specialty, will take part in the event.
