Hearing against prosecutor Fani Willis, will it derail Trump case?

Washington, Feb 17 (Prensa Latina) The hearing continues today in Georgia in which the intimate life of Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis could be a trigger to disqualify her in the case against former President Donald Trump.

Willis took the stand as witness in a hearing on a challenge brought by one of Trump’s 18 co-defendants in the Georgia election crimes case seeking to remove her for an alleged conflict of interest.

In a dramatic day of testimony, a Willis’ female friend contradicted sworn statements made by her and special prosecutor Nathan Wade about their affair.

Wade denied allegations against her, and then it was Willis’ turn to enter, saying she was ready and clarifying that this was not a trial.

TV channels showed how Willis confronted Trump’s attorney, Steven Sadow; Ashleigh Merchant, legal representative of co-defendant in the case; Michael Roman; William Cromwell, defender of co-defendant Cathy Latham; and Harry MacDougald, attorney for co-defendant Jeffrey Clark.

The Fulton district attorney was defiant in lines of questioning, peppered her testimony with colorful and, at times, fascinating details and insisted on lies surrounding her relationship with Wade.

Of course, Trump would benefit whether prosecutor Willis were disqualified and removed from the case, so he unleashed his fury in a series of capitalized posts on his Truth Social network in which he repeated his strong accusations.

Willis conducted an extensive investigation that led to the first criminal indictment of a former president in U.S. history. Along with Trump, 18 others were indicted in a plot to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

The indictment detailed dozens of acts by Trump and his allies to undo his defeat in the battleground state and the charges relate to how they instigated maneuvers to stay in power.

The defendants refused to accept that Trump lost, and knowingly and willingly joined in the conspiracy to illegally change the election tallies in the mogul’s favor.

The eventual disqualification of Willis for this “love affair” affair would undoubtedly hand a victory to Trump, who seeks to overturn the case against him.
