Argentine healthcare workers to go on strike

Buenos Aires, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) The general secretary of the Federation of Argentine Health Workers' Associations, Héctor Daer, said on Tuesday that a 24-hour strike will be staged next Thursday.

On his X profile, Daer, who is also an executive of the General Confederation of Labor, stated that the measure will take place in view of the intransigence of the business chambers in the negotiations (meetings to address wage improvements).

We will take all the necessary union actions. Without wages there is no health, he said.

Last week, after a meeting that lasted more than four hours, representatives of the Executive, employers and union groups did not reach an agreement on a pay raise and the minimum and maximum amounts of unemployment benefits.

Daer blamed the country’s leadership for what happened and pointed out that this is an unprecedented rupture among the stockholders in that space.

I consider it really shameful to have made a parody of a legitimate instrument of democracy. It was one more step to break the country’s institutionality, he added, and pointed out that an instance of dialogue was damaged.

“They want to achieve collective impoverishment, that we all work for a dish of rice, in order to enter into a competitive framework for the transfer of those who have less to those who have more,” he commented.
