Namibia bids its last farewell to President Hage Geingob

Windhoek, Feb 25 (Prensa Latina) Namibia gave on Sunday a State funeral to its recently deceased third President Hage G. Geingob at the Heroes' Acre on the outskirts of this capital.

The burial marked the end of numerous memorial activities held since Geingob’s natural death on February 4, leading up to a State memorial service at the country’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.

During the military procession from the Stadium to the Acre, thousands of people lined along the roads as a sign of respect, many applauding, an action characterized by the Namibian spirit of celebrating mostly the deceased’s life as it comes to an end.

The funeral was attended by numerous leaders from various regions worldwide, mainly from Africa, including the Presidents of South Africa, Cyril Rampahosa; Kenya, William Ruto; and Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Other senior officials included the President of Cuba’s National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament), Esteban Lazo Hernandez, and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

At Geingob’s funeral ceremony on Saturday, Lazo Hernandez highlighted the long-standing relations of brotherhood between the Namibian and Cuban peoples. He noted, “We will never forget our friend.”

The Cuban parliamentary leader concluded that a Baobab has fallen but his example will multiply in young people who embody the future and who will make Namibia a better country, as the deceased president dreamed of.
