President Díaz-Canel visits municipality in central Cuba

Santi Spíritus, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel is continuing his tour of productive entities that did not achieve the efficiency results planned for 2023 and visited Jatibonico, a municipality in central Sancti Spíritus province on Wednesday.

Accompanied by the organizational secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales, Díaz-Canel visited the Uruguay sugarcane mill, which has not participated in a harvest since 2020.

Since then, the mill has been looking for alternatives to take advantage of the potential of its areas and for workers to maintain the link.

The repair being carried out at the mill, currently at 83 percent, will allow Uruguay to join the country’s sugarcane harvest again, the Presidency of the Republic explained on its X account.

Despite the stoppage, its machining workshop has remained active, making contributions to other industries in the country.

The head of State also visited the UBPC El Meso, which is attached to the Uruguay Agroindustrial Sugar Company, which as part of its corporate purpose includes agricultural production and housing, in addition to sugar cane.

The company reported losses last year and in 2024 its workers will strive to overcome them, the PCC noted on its X account.

At a meeting with workers of El Meso, Morales encouraged them to follow sustainable development strategies in their productions, diversify products and find productive chains, since the losses affect the income plan and the salary of their workers.

During the visit, Díaz-Canel was also accompanied by the first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in Sancti Spíritus, Deivy Pérez, as well as other leaders from the province and the municipality.
