French Embassy maintains alert for its citizens in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Mar 3 (Prensa Latina) The French Embassy in Haiti maintains its alert to be extremely careful and limit the movements of its citizens residing in the Caribbean country, after gangs released criminals from the national penitentiary.

In a message issued by the diplomatic headquarters, it advised its compatriots not to travel to any part of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince until the situation is clarified and insists in its brief note that caution should be maintained.

The alert of the French Embassy is issued after gang members assaulted the national penitentiary the day before and released notorious criminals.

Prior to the attack, the bandits were watching the premises with a drone, and once they had obtained the required information, they began a skirmish with pistols and semi-automatic machine guns against the officers on duty.

Police forces found it impossible to repel the coordinated assaults by the attackers and were forced to abandon the site in the face of the number and firepower of their adversaries.

So far the number of escapees has not been disclosed, much less their profiles, but the main gang leaders are no longer in Haiti’s largest detention center.
