Large popular participation marked regional elections in Nicaragua

Managua, Mar 4 (Prensa Latina) The ninth regional elections of the Nicaraguan Caribbean coast held this Sunday, whose final result will be issued today, were marked by a wide popular participation.

The president of the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE), Brenda Rocha, in a televised declaration on the eve, at the stroke of midnight, highlighted the presence of voters in the two autonomous regions of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua.

When making a preliminary balance of the elections in which 180 councilmen were elected, between owners and alternates of both regions, the magistrate thanked the participants of the political parties and their alliances.

She also referred to the gender equity in these elections, for which they ensured 50% women and 50% men, following the country’s political constitution and regulation 331, electoral law.

According to preliminary information, of the 751 Voting Boards, 433 were already counted at 57,66%, and 318 are pending at 42,34%.

According to the CSE, the total votes counted were 105,195, 101,914 were valid, and the annulled votes were 3,281.

The report states that the alliance of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, Unida Nicaragua Triunfa, reached so far 91,580 votes with 89,86%.
