Overwhelming heat affects Salvadorans

San Salvador, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) Temperatures near and above 40 degrees Celsius will continue affecting the population of El Salvador, according to forecasts of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN).

The MARN informed that for this Wednesday temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius are expected in the eastern zone of El Salvador and recommended the population not to go out during the hours of greater sunshine, at midday.

The MARN observatory warns that during heat waves, temperatures rise unusually and are characterized by a prolonged period for more than three days, where the air is heated, there is no rain and the thermal sensation is dangerous for life.

According to the environmental authority, from March to May, the air brings with it an increase in fine particles such as dust, haze, dry haze, and pollutants that affect its quality.

Ministry reports indicate that high temperatures will persist until May, despite a decrease in the El Niño phenomenon, according to the World Meteorological Organization.

MARN announced in early February 2024 that the transition to the rainy season could be delayed by the El Niño phenomenon, which will maintain its influence until April, so the drought and the recurrence of very hot days will continue.
