Cuba denounces humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel

Geneva, Switzerland, Mar 14 (Prensa Latina) Ambassador Juan Antonio Quintanilla, Cuba's permanent representative in Geneva, denounced here on Thursday the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel in Gaza for five months.

In his speech on the Report on the work of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in relation to the crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory, the diplomat remarked the murders of 30,000 Palestinians, the destruction of 70 percent of homes and the forced displacement of nearly two million people.

“Nothing can justify such barbarism. We demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza without restrictions,” Quintanilla noted.

The diplomat said that the current situation in the Palestinian territories is the result of decades of Israeli practices of illegal occupation and colonization, in flagrant violation of the inalienable rights of that people in their own territory.

Quintanilla added the prolonged disrespect for the Purposes and Principles of the United Nations Charter and International Law, including numerous UN resolutions.

“Cuba’s support for the Palestinian cause is clear and invariable. We demand a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the conflict, which guarantees the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” he expressed.

She reiterated Cuba’s rejection of the deaths of civilians and innocent people of all parties involved, regardless of ethnicity, nationality or religious faith; and the condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the murders of civilians, especially women, children and humanitarian workers from the United Nations system.

The diplomat conveyed Havana’s denunciation of the indiscriminate bombings against the population in Gaza and the destruction of homes, hospitals and civilian infrastructure, alongside the deprivation of water, electricity and fuel services to the population, classified as serious violations of International Humanitarian Law.
