Honduras bets on interoceanic railroad project

Tegucigalpa, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) Government officials are betting on constructing the Interoceanic Railroad, a project considered a leading factor for developing the country and the region.

According to Héctor Zelaya, private secretary of the presidency, who heads the project’s commission, the initiative will guarantee the well-being of present and future generations and strengthen the economic integration system.

During a recent meeting of that working group, Zelaya presented the achievements and agreements reached in Mexico at a meeting with Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcenas and other officials, with whom he learned about the experiences of the Maya Train and the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT).

He commented that those approaches to the Mexican experience will ensure the success of the project, which is being promoted by President Xiomara Castro.

According to initial estimates, Honduras’ 20-billion-dollar interoceanic railway project would take up to 15 years to be completed.
