Vaccines against Covid-19 run out in Ecuador

Quito, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) According to the Ministry of Public Health, vaccines against the Sars-Cov-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, ran out in Ecuador.

In declarations to Radio Pichincha radio station, epidemiologist Marcelo Aguilar detailed that, although the number of cases has dropped considerably in the last months, it is important to vaccinate in this winter season that has caused the increase of gastrointestinal diseases and dengue. That plus covid-19 can be fatal, he warned.

According to the specialist, the Ministry of Health allocated a budget of eight million dollars for the acquisition of injectables against Covid-19, so that they can be integrated to the regular scheme.

Although 500,000 doses were acquired to immunize the population, the first batch of 250,000 has not yet arrived, which caused a shortage in some public health sub-centers, such as Bellavista, in the north of Quito, where there has been no vaccines since December 2023, health authorities recently detailed to Ecuavisa channel.

Currently, the vaccine against Covid-19 is part of the regular schedule and its application should be performed once a year.

Since November 2023, Ecuador accepted the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and its citizens receive a seasonal dose of the vaccine against Covid-19.
