Bolsonaro has 48 hours to clarify stay at Hungarian Embassy in Brazil

Brasilia, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes gave former President Jair Bolsonaro 48 hours to explain his stay at the Hungarian Embassy in this capital.

The far-right politician stayed at that embassy from February 12 to 14 and was the target of the so-called Véritas Operation by the Federal Police for the alleged attempted coup in January 2023.

During the operation, federal agents confiscated the former president’s passport in the office of the Liberal Party, ordered by De Moraes to prevent him from leaving the country.

The judge is the rapporteur of the case investigating Bolsonaro and his allies for the attempted coup.

The former military officer’s stay in the Hungarian Embassy in Brazil was revealed by The New York Times on Monday.

The US newspaper suggested that Bolsonaro, who is the target of a criminal investigation, was trying to escape justice because he could not be arrested in a foreign embassy that hosted him, as he is legally beyond the reach of local authorities.

Given these facts, Federal Senator Lindbergh Farias, from the Workers’ Party, requested the Public Prosecutor’s Office to detain the former paratrooper who is obviously trying to escape justice.
