Santo Domingo, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) The ninth victim of the fire that occurred during the Salcedo carnival in the Dominican Republic died early this morning after being hospitalized for 16 days with severe burns.

The victim is Carlos de Jesús Blanco Ovalles, 12 years old, who was admitted to the Thelma Rosario Burn Unit of the Arturo Grullón Pediatric Regional University Hospital, in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros.

Ovalles had third degree burns, the director of the center, Dr. Alexis Garcia, confirmed.

The tragedy in Salcedo, Hermanas Mirabal province, has caused commotion and concern in the country, especially because most of the injured were children.
