Argentinean workers to protest against layoffs

Buenos Aires, Mar 28 (Prensa Latina) The general secretary of the Argentine State Workers Association (ATE), Rodolfo Aguiar, confirmed today that a day of struggle against layoffs in the public administration will be held on April 3.

Through his profile in the social network X, the union leader described the Government of Javier Milei as ‘harmful and cruel’ and denounced that thousands of employees are receiving telegrams notifying them of the end of their labor contracts.

On Wednesday we will report to our workplaces, making him (Milei) exclusively responsible for any violent act, said Aguiar.

We hope that scenarios of the past are not repeated, that the public administration is not militarized and that the police do not block the doors of the ministries with lists of who may or may not enter, he added.

He also accused the president and his officials of ‘breaking fundamental norms and violating the constitutional right to stability in public employment’.

Every layoff becomes an ordeal for the worker and the family that suffers it, but also behind every job that is lost, there is a public policy being dismantled, he asserted.

In the face of the social tragedy it is causing, we will defend ourselves with the most effective tools we have: exercising our rights of strike, demonstration and freedom of expression, he added.

He also pointed out that the Executive is ‘dangerous and ruthless’, for which he anticipated ‘the condemnation of any act of repression that could be ordered from the Casa Rosada’.

The day before, the presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni specified that more than 70 000 labor contracts are being analyzed and 15 000 of them will be terminated on the 31st of this month.

He also indicated that the rest will continue to be audited.
