Cuba denounces arms priority over environmental commitment

Havana, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Monday denounced the aftermaths of climate change, which poses serious risks for life on Earth, whereas NATO's military expenditures continue to rise, an official source noted.

On his X account, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez warned about the danger to human existence due to the adverse effects of natural phenomena, while the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) makes up other threats.

The military alliance, in that regard, manufactures those menaces to ramp up its exorbitant military expenditures, and sustain its polluting military industries, wasting resources urgently needed for climate financing, Rodriguez pointed out.

The Cuban Government, through its Foreign Ministry, has reaffirmed its denunciation of the excessive arms priority given by NATO’s Western member powers over the environmental commitment agreed upon at United Nations forums.

The war alliance increases its military expenditures every year, formalizing contracts for the acquisition of increasingly lethal weapons that only benefit its arms industry.

The head of Cuban diplomacy recently warned on X that the military carbon footprint of the transatlantic organization surged from 196 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (C02) in 2021 to 226 million in 2023.

Those figures exceed the greenhouse gas emissions of 80 percent of the world’s countries, the Cuban foreign minister stressed.
