Claim over the Malvinas Islands must be State policy, fr president said

Buenos Aires, April 2 (Prensa Latina) Argentina’s former President Alberto Fernandez stressed on Tuesday that the claim over the Malvinas (Falklands) Islands must be an indisputable State policy of the nation.

On X, Fernandez condemned the lately visit paid by British PM David Cameron to Argentina, which the former president described as a direct offense to sovereignty that cannot be dismissed. He further pointed out, “there are two ways to govern Argentina: preserving its interests or dismissing them. In our Government we managed to get the European Union to acknowledge that the islands are in dispute; thus ignoring the sovereignty invoked by the United Kingdom.”

We renew our unwavering commitment to the Falkland Islands’ cause, in honor of the sacrifice of those who bravely defended our land. The Islands are and will always be Argentine, he added.

The claim of the Argentinian people was also defended by the former head of State Cristina Fernandez, who asked for respect and honor for the fallen and former combatants in the 1982 war against the British forces.

Likewise, former Interior Minister Eduardo de Pedro, Minister of Science and Technology Daniel Filmus and Minister of Foreign Affairs Santiago Cafiero reaffirmed the pressing need to continue fighting for them, so that the national flag flies again in the Falkland Islands.

Meanwhile, former Defense Minister Jorge Taiana warned that we are living times of “not fighting for the Falkland Islands” and lack of firmness in the defense of sovereignty. That is why I call on you to honor our heroes and reaffirm our legitimate rights over the Islands, he stated.
