Mass dismissal of striking doctors in Kenyan hospital

Nairobi, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) The Kenya University Hospital announced the dismissal of 100 doctors from various specialties who went on a nationwide strike that began almost a month ago.

The doctors went on strike to demand higher salaries and better working conditions.

In conjunction with the announcement of the mass layoffs of 100 professionals, which is unprecedented in this East African country, the hospital managers announced hiring an equal number of recent graduates to fill the vacancies.

The doctors’ strike, which began in mid-March, had been doomed to fail since last Saturday when Kenyan President William Ruto, told reporters that the State lacked the funds to meet the strikers’ demands.

However, the doctors’ union persists in its demands and hundreds of its members took part in protests on Tuesday, when they presented a petition urging lawmakers to take up their cause.
