Iraq and Türkiye sign strategic cooperation agreements

Baghdad, Apr 22 (Prensa Latina) Iraq and Türkiye signed here today 26 memorandums of cooperation, in the context of the visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the nation.

In the presence of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani and the Turkish head of state, the two governments materialized the bilateral strategic framework agreement, which included sectors such as transport, water, trade, investment and security.

The parties initialed a memorandum of understanding for technical, scientific and economic cooperation in the field of small and medium enterprises.

In the field of security, Baghdad and Ankara sealed agreements for defense training, health training, as well as cooperation between the Military Industrialization Authority and the Türkiye Industries Secretariat.

The two countries established partnerships between the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute and its Turkish Strategic Studies counterpart, in addition to collaboration in medical sciences and in the field of youth and sports.

On the occasion, they strengthened the plan of the Agricultural Working Group for the period 2024-2025, the exchange on scientific and technological research and tourism cooperation.

They also reached a memorandum of understanding in the field of employment and social security, government documents and archives, religious affairs, judicial training, electricity, and media and communications.

During the expanded talks held at the government palace in Baghdad, the two delegations discussed the strategic framework agreement, which will represent a roadmap for building sustainable cooperation.

At the same time, they emphasized the need for increased trade and investment promotion, at the official level through the joint economic committee and boosting the Iraqi-Turkish Business Council.
