Millions of tree seedlings planted in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, May 27 (Prensa Latina) More than 32 million tree seedlings have been planted in recent years in Ethiopia as part of the first phase of the Green Legacy Initiative, the Government Communications Service (GCS) revealed.

Of the total number, 90 percent have survived thanks to the dedication of professionals in their care, the GCS said. In this regard, the statement stressed the importance of consistent natural resource and biodiversity conservation activities in building climate-resilient landscapes.

The statement added that the areas that are frequently affected by droughts receive rainfall, reduced the risk of recurrent flooding, while dry streams and lakes returned after national environmental protection activities.

Similarly, the initiative (Green Legacy) launched in 2019 by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has contributed significantly to the efforts to create employment opportunities for youth people and women.
