UN rapporteur denounces Israeli attack against displaced camp in Gaza

Ramallah, May 27 (Prensa Latina) The UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, denounced an Israeli attack on a camp for displaced people in Gaza.

Last night’s bombing caused a fire in numerous plastic tents, tragically burning many people, the official highlighted on X. “This cruelty, together with the flagrant defiance of international law and system, is unacceptable,” she stressed.

Albanese affirmed that the war in Gaza will only end with external pressure. “Israel must face sanctions, justice, suspension of agreements, trade, associations and investments, as well as participation in international forums,” she estimated.

In recent months, Albanese has repeatedly demanded an arms embargo and sanctions against Israel while calling for its leaders to be tried.

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) also condemned the Israeli attack, which caused 35 deaths and dozens of injuries. Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina said the bombing of an area in the southern city of Rafah was “a massacre that exceeded all limits.”

The head of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, stated that the incursion confirms Israeli plans for destruction and ethnic cleansing.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attack, but noted that the target was a hidden security compound of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Tel Sultan area.

Israeli media revealed that the Army used at least seven 1-ton bombs.
