FAO helps Cuba with vaccines for rabbit breeding

Havana, May 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has received another aid commitment from the United Nations through the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) to purchase vaccines to prevent viral hemorrhagic disease in rabbits.

Such provisions will be forwarded mainly to the municipalities of Cienaga de Zapata in Matanzas (west), Yaguajay in Sancti Spiritus (center), and their surrounding areas, FAO announced in this capital.

The UN specialized agency explained that those demarcations reported a significant threat to the Cuban brown rabbit population.

According to the text, the supply will occur in the context of the Cobimas project, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and financed by the Global Environment Facility.

The document stated that the vaccines will support national efforts to face the disease’s outbreaks to preserve biodiversity and the well-being of local communities.
