PIT-CNT celebrates dialogue process with next Uruguayan government

Montevideo, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) The PIT-CNT celebrated the dialogue process initiated with the incoming government of the Frente Amplio, whose president-elect, Yamandú Orsi, met today with the leadership of the union center.

“It was a very important conversation that inaugurates a process of permanent dialogue with the Executive Power, as stated by the authorities,” said the president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala, to the press after the meeting concluded.

He explained that among the topics presented was the reduction of the working day and the dialogue on the pension system, with the proposal that 60 years be reestablished as the age for retirement.

Also, that the minimum wage be equal to the minimum retirement.

These are demands that were included in a referendum that did not get enough votes last October, but did get the ballots of a good part of the voters.

Abdala pointed out that the union center would not go against the results of the plebiscite and noted that its main issues are contained in the program of the Broad Front, which will take over the government on March 1.

He explained that the position of the PIT-CNT was “to promote a national development strategy based on quality work,” for which it proposed the establishment of “dialogue areas.” with a view to benefiting the vast majority.”

They also outlined the need to promote quality employment for young people and women, salary improvements and the establishment of tripartite negotiation scenarios with employers and the government.

In addition, they referred to the integrated health system, budget, and human rights, among other issues that, according to Abdala, the next government has committed to studying.
