In an interview with the Anadolu news agency the foreign minister ratified his government’s opposition “to all initiatives that seek to exclude the Gaza population from the equation in the region.”
The idea of displacement is not acceptable either to the region nor to us, he insisted.
Fidan stressed his country’s firm stance on Palestinian rights, rejecting any efforts to remove Hamas from the reconstruction and governance of Gaza.
He also criticized proposals that instead of addressing the humanitarian crisis focus on security concerns at the expense of Palestinian lives.
The real problem in Gaza is that people are facing genocide, and 1.8 million are struggling to survive, he said.
Proposals that disparage the security of Palestinians while prioritizing the security concerns of others are simply not viable.
Unilateral decisions could fuel future conflicts, he noted.
He further stressed the need to find balanced solutions that take into consideration both Israeli and Palestinian security concerns.
Fidan thus responded to statements made by Trump yesterday at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is visiting the United States.
On the occasion, Trump said that his country will take over the Gaza Strip and rehabilitate it after the Palestinians are resettled somewhere else.
