Vaccination campaign against HPV continues in Nicaragua

Managua, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua's Health Ministry (Minsa) continues today the vaccination campaign against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), aimed at protecting girls between 10 and 14 years old from cervical cancer.

The co-president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, said told the media that to date almost 30,000 girls have been vaccinated as part of this initiative that began last month in its cycle corresponding to 2025.

The vaccines for this campaign are available nationwide from health centers and medical posts in health fairs in hard-to-reach places of this Central American nation, according to Minsa authorities.

During this vaccination crusade, in which more than 51,000 doses will be applied in the capital city alone, girls between 10 and 11 years old who did not receive their first dose in 2024 will be immunized.

The HPV vaccine, which is approximately 98 percent effective, is administered in two doses, one at the beginning of the year and the second six months later.

The prevention of cervical cancer is a public health priority for the government, which is why vaccination is an important tool for the prevention of the disease.

According to official data, a dose of HPV vaccine in private health centers in Nicaragua costs between 100 and 150 dollars, however, the Sandinista Executive guarantees it free of charge.
