According to the official, the new sanctions package will include a reduction of the so-called price cap on Russian oil prices, which will entail additional restrictions against that country’s financial sector.
On May 14, EU ambassadors agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
The penalties must now be approved by EU foreign ministers, which is expected to happen on May 20.
According to Von der Leyen, the latest EU sanctions package against Russia includes measures against 189 oil companies.
Later, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen indicated that the community would immediately start developing the next, the eighteenth, sanctions plan against Russia.
