Uruguay criticises Israel for aggressions against Palestine

Montevideo, May 29 (Prensa Latina) Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi condemned Israel's military offensive in Gaza and considered it unjustified, according to statements published today.

Orsi made statements to La Diaria and said that the war action in the Gaza Strip deployed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “feeds anti-simitism” and generates “pain, tiredness and weariness of important sectors of the Israeli people”.

The president also remarked that the Uruguyan government condemned the “kidnappings of the terrorist group Hamas” perpetrated in October 2023 and took the position of “demanding the surrender” of those kidnapped.

Such a situation, however, “in no way justifies this escalation of violence led by Netanyahu.” “A disservice is also being done with this course of action that continues to feed anti-Semitism, something that time and again we repudiate and will repudiate”, Orsi concluded.

Earlier, the Uruguayan government had summoned the Israeli ambassador here to respond to the attack suffered by a group of ambassadors by the Israeli army in the Palestinian city of Jenin.

“Our position is very clear. We never again want what happened on October 7, 2023. We want this situation of massacre in the Gaza world to end. We do not accept the number of dead, of women, of children (killed), Chancellor Mario Lubetkin told La Diaria.
