One part of society is uncomfortable with the deployment of foreign players in their country, as has happened at other times in history, and another side applauds the idea of putting an end to criminal groups by any means necessary.
Faced with the uncontrolled rise of armed gangs, the Haitian government signed a contract with Erik Prince, founder of the private military company Blackwater.
Prince began operating armed drones in the Caribbean nation in March 2025 and plans to send up to 150 mercenaries, as well as an arsenal of weapons, to support local forces, commented Le Nouvelliste newspaper.
The move reflects – in the newspaper’s opinion – the growing desperation of the Haitian government, which is facing a total collapse of security.
