Future presence of mercenaries will generate controversy in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, May 30 (Prensa Latina) The future presence of mercenaries in Haiti will generate controversy in the country, where the gangs that today control more than 85% of this capital brought the government to the brink of desperation.

One part of society is uncomfortable with the deployment of foreign players in their country, as has happened at other times in history, and another side applauds the idea of putting an end to criminal groups by any means necessary.

Faced with the uncontrolled rise of armed gangs, the Haitian government signed a contract with Erik Prince, founder of the private military company Blackwater.

Prince began operating armed drones in the Caribbean nation in March 2025 and plans to send up to 150 mercenaries, as well as an arsenal of weapons, to support local forces, commented Le Nouvelliste newspaper.

The move reflects – in the newspaper’s opinion – the growing desperation of the Haitian government, which is facing a total collapse of security.
