In 2022, China and almost 20 like-minded countries launched the initiative to establish the International Mediation Court.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that following joint efforts, negotiations of the founding treaty were concluded, and the nations agreed to locate the institution’s headquarters in Hong Kong.
The new court is the first intergovernmental legal body dedicated exclusively to resolving international disputes through mediation.
It aims to promote the principles of the UN Charter and strengthen multilateral mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
