The visitor, who is on an official visit to Cuba, met at the legislative headquarters, where the parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), national television reported.
During the talks, Lazo stressed the importance of the visit of the president of that organization that hosts 181 national parliaments, and ratified the readiness to continue strengthening mutual relations.
Lazo, who is also the president of the Cuban Council of State, said, “We acknowledge the important role of the institution you represent and appreciate the excellent relations between Cuba and the IPU.”
He also thanked the stance of the multiregional body, which every year ratifies by submitting a report to the United Nations Secretary-General, for its rejection of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against the Caribbean country.
Chungong, in turn, conveyed a message of solidarity and support to the Cuban people, whom he considered “a friend,” and expressed his willingness to continue raising the voice of the institution he represents in defense of the island’s causes.
The television report added that the distinguished visitor laid a wreath on Friday before the National Hero Jose Marti memorial at Havana’s Revolution Square.
