Links with Italy and Mpox fight marked Ethiopian week

Addis Ababa, May 31 (Prensa Latina) The successful working visit to Italy by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, as well as the health measures implemented following the detection of the Mpox virus, marked this week in Ethiopia.

Ahmed, leading a high-level delegation, completed a work agenda that included a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, official talks with his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, and evaluations of joint projects with the Webuild Group, a company specializing in the design and construction of large infrastructure.

Ethiopian Finance Minister Ahmed Shide stated that in extensive talks with the Pontiff, both parties agreed to strengthen collaboration in education, world peace, and bilateral and multilateral commitments.

Shide, regarding the meeting with Meloni, specified that it focused on key bilateral issues that highlighted the growing collaboration between the two nations, mainly on unrelenting Italian support for economic reforms, energy development, and overall Ethiopian growth.

He also revealed that both governments have signed agreements in several critical areas, such as green development, urban infrastructure, and macroeconomic reform.

Separately, Ahmed met with Webuild Group CEO Pietro Salini.

During the discussion, the African leader invited the Italian company to expand its investments in priority sectors such as housing, energy, mining, and fertilizer production.

On the other hand, Ethiopian health authorities have focused their attention to keep under control the spread of the Mpox virus, detected so far only in a town of Oromia Region, with three confirmed cases.
