Nicaragua promotes development of hospitals network

Managua, May 31 (Prensa Latina) The Nicaraguan government is promoting the development of its hospital network with the opening of more centers that will ensure free medical care.

This week, in honor of Mother’s Day, the Health Ministry (Minsa) inaugurated the “Jacinto Hernandez” Departmental Hospital in the municipality of Nueva Guinea in Zelaya Central, which will benefit more than 320,000 people in the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region.

With 184 beds, the health institution also has four operating rooms, an Intensive Care Unit, labor and delivery wards, emergency services, outpatient clinics, hospitalization, a clinical laboratory, ultrasound and X-ray services.

Nicaraguan Co-President Rosario Murillo also announced that Luis Alfonso Moncada hospital in Ocotal is scheduled to open on August 13th.

She also highlighted the opening of a hospital in Leon city in September, and in December Nuevo Amanecer regional center in the department of Puerto Cabezas, on the northern Caribbean coast.

A report from the Ministry specified that since 2007, the number of national units of this type have increased from one to four, which includes the National Diagnostic and Reference Center, the Dermatology Center, Juan Ignacio Gutierrez Oncology Center, and Clemente Guido Oncology Center for Chemotherapy and Palliative Care.

The network of maternity homes has also increased, from 20 in 2007 to 178 currently.

The hospital network in this Central American nation has grown since the Sandinista government returned to power 18 years ago, with its government working tirelessly to guarantee free, quality medical care.
