According to the report, the drugs were hidden in containers that transited through a port in the Caribbean province of Colon.
In a first operation, the authorities seized seven thousand packages of illicit substance in a container coming from Ecuador and destined for Belgium.
In a second raid, they seized 1,268 packages in a refrigerated container that had Spain as its destination.
Meanwhile, in another search and seizure of a container, the Panamanian Drug Prosecutor’s Office located four packages lined with black plastic, which, when opened contained 194 packages of drugs.
Most of the drugs seized in Panama are cocaine, and the packages usually weigh approximately one kilogram each.
Panama is used as a bridge for drugs produced in South America which are mainly headed for the United States, the world’s largest cocaine consumer, as well as Europe and Asia.
The Central American country closed 2024 with the seizure of more than 80 tons of drugs, according to official figures.
In 2023, seizures totaled 119.2 tons, mostly cocaine, according to data from the Ministry of Security.
