AU attends global platform on disaster risk reduction in Switzerland

Addis Ababa, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) The African Union (AU) is participating on Monday in the 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Switzerland, committed in this sphere to presenting successful initiatives and building a more resilient continent.

Themed “Every Day Counts, Act for Resilience Today,” the event runs until June 6 at the Geneva International Conference Center. It is hosted by the Swiss Government and co-chaired by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), a release stated.

Global Platform 2025 will provide an opportunity to strengthen the implementation of the Sendai Framework 2015-2030, considering the progress and challenges identified in its Mid-Term Review and reflecting Africa’s Common Position in the Political Declaration.

It will also exchange knowledge and good practices, ensure the inclusion of the African vision, and generate synergies and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

It aims to strengthen Africa’s position on disaster risk reduction in global fora and be reflected in the final Declaration of the Global Platform.

The continent demonstrates significant progress in disaster risk reduction through the implementation of global, continental, regional, and national frameworks and programs..
