Lawyer Juan Raúl Williman argued in favor of granting the extension to the Prosecutor’s Office, because of the right of victims who have not yet testified to be heard.
He claimed that not granting the extension would not allow the prosecution team to continue the investigation.
Prosecutor Alicia Ghione indicated at the hearing that she carried out 22 expert opinions and took 35 statements.
Next October 10 will be the second anniversary of the indictment of the former legislator for 22 crimes of sexual nature against minors and preventive detention was ordered as a precautionary measure.
On February 5, 2025, Justice ordered Penadés to be placed under house arrest with an electronic anklet.
A week later an appeals court overturned the decision and the former senator returned to prison.
On May 14, 2025, Penadés was charged again for repeated crimes of rape, corruption of minors and indecent assault against four new victims who joined the case.
