Italy faces new increase in irregular migrant arrivals

Rome, Jun 3 (Prensa Latina) In the first five months of 2025, 22,844 immigrants arrived by sea in Italy, an increase of 2,028 compared to the 20,816 registered in the same period of the previous year, according to a report today.

The Ministry of the Interior published Tuesday on the website of the Avvenire newspaper that landings peaked in May, when they totaled 7,051 people, much higher than the 4,976 who arrived in that same month of 2024.

The days with the highest number of arrivals were May 1 and 20, with 670 and 541 immigrants, respectively, while 534 arrived on May 2 and 483 on May 18.

As for unaccompanied minors, 3,839 arrived in those first five months of 2025, with a growth, proportional compared to the same period of 2024, a year in which 8,043 in total were registered.

Among the nationalities of migrants, based on this publication’s report, the highest percentage corresponds to Bangladeshis, with 34.0 percent, followed by Eritreans, with 16.0 percent, while Egyptians and Pakistanis showed equal percentages of 10.0 points.
