Malaysia seeks educational opportunities outside the United States

London, Jun 3 (Prensa Latina) Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid, said in London that political and systemic changes in the United States, including education, advise exploring advantages in education in other countries.

He informed that his nation will no longer send students sponsored by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) agency to the American country due to the new policies of President Donald Trump’s administration.

Zahid, also minister of Rural and Regional Development, explained that his approach is to transform “threats” into “opportunities.”

He felt that the UK’s education system, with which Malaysia is familiar, can be of great use, building on the long-established cooperation between the two countries.

During his four-day working visit to the UK, the deputy minister seeks to expand cooperation in this field.

This includes exploring new areas such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, robotics and green energy, in collaboration with British universities, and also the “train the trainer” programs.

Ahmad Zahid’s agenda in the UK includes meetings with representatives of leading institutions such as London University College and meetings with students sponsored by Mara.
