The rainfall was recorded mainly in the early hours of the morning when a strong convective core was passing over the territory, giving way to heavy and intense rainfall accompanied by significant electrical activity.
The automatic station in Mariel recorded a 24-hour accumulation of 98.1 mm, of which 67.4 mm fell between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. local time. A trough clearly visible at different levels of the troposphere over the eastern Gulf of Mexico, which favors a very humid flow from the south, was the cause of the heavy rains.
It will continue in the coming hours, but with a tendency to weaken, so cloud cover and rainfall are expected to decrease during the afternoon.
