In the context of the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of relations between Cuba and the Apostolic See, the archbishop arrived in this capital on Tuesday evening.

He was received at the Jose Marti International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodriguez, Caridad Diego, head of the Office of Attention to Religious Affairs at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), and Apostolic Nuncio Antoine Camilleri.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX) noted that Monsignor Gallagher’s presence in Havana is “a sign of the positive state of relations between the two States.”

Gallagher’s agenda here includes participation in a stamp first-day-of-issue ceremony for the 90th anniversary of bilateral ties.

He has also scheduled a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and will attend a Thanksgiving mass for the beginning of the Pontificate of His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV.

He will also attend the inauguration of an exhibition on relations between Cuba and the Holy See,\ and meet with members of the Cuban Episcopal Conference. A visit to the Paula Church Home for the Elderly is also scheduled for the representative of the Holy see.

Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher is expected to conclude his visit to Cuba on Friday, June 6.
