Panama: Parlatino hosts political talks on climate crisis

Panama City, June 4 (Prensa Latina) Parlatino, based in Panama since 2008, is hosting the forum entitled Political Dialogue: Parliaments in Climate Action and the Just Transition.

The event is committed to the Pact for the Future signed at the United Nations in September 2024, which seeks to undertake ambitious and transformative actions to implement the 2030 Agenda and leave no one behind in the face of climate change.

The two-day debates respond to the challenge of finding a comprehensive solution to the climate problem with the participation of the Global South.

Therefore, among the panel topics is how to accelerate parliamentary contribution into the creation and maintenance of a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.

In addition, they will discuss the oversight role of parliaments in supervising national and international climate commitments.

In this regard, they will issue recommendations to the UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP30), to be held next November in the Brazilian city of Belem.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the president of the regional legislature, Rolando Gonzalez, expressed that the conclusion of this debates will be the establishment of the Parliamentary Alliance for Climate Action and Just Transition.

It will be the platform, the interparliamentary instrument for the exchange of ideas for the development of projects and the visibility of certain initiatives, he commented.

Furthermore, he said, this is a first step toward ensuring that interparliamentary efforts can become the missing piece of the global governance architecture in the face of the climate crisis.
