According to the president, the Colombians who participated in the attack, which also wounded two soldiers, are former military personnel hired by the Cartel de los Reyes to confront the Mexican military forces.
“In Colombia, mercenarism must be prohibited and punishable by severe prison sentences. Colombian public funds, including funds from the US people, must not be used to train people who then sell their military knowledge to the enemies of humanity.” “That is a betrayal of the country,” the president wrote on his social media account X.
Yesterday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement expressing its condolences to the families of the National Guard members killed in the attack on the border between Jalisco and Michoacán.
The Ministry added that the Mexican authorities’ actions resulted in the arrest of 17 people, several of them Colombian nationals, who are accused of being responsible for the crimes.
Furthermore, it detailed that the Consular Mission in Mexico carried out the verification of the identities of the individuals identified, resulting in 11 of the 12 names presented by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Mexico being Colombian and having ties to the Armed Forces in the past.
The Foreign Ministry also called for strengthening judicial cooperation relations to confront criminal phenomena that extend their networks between both nations in matters of drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other crimes.
