The CES meeting is the result of agreements reached during a meeting between the president and former presidents Hipólito Mejía, Leonel Fernández, and Danilo Medina, held on May 14, to to build a unified stance on Haiti.
The Presidency reported that the opening session will include the participation of the three former heads of state, in accordance with the agreement reached at the meeting, which established the creation of joint working spaces between the government and the former presidents to define a national policy regarding the crisis in Haiti, according to the official version.
The dialogue will focus on six strategic axes: migration, bilateral trade, development of border communities, national security, international relations, and labor issues.
The president reiterated that the meeting represents a call for multisectoral dialogue and the formulation of a state strategy to address one of the most complex challenges in the country’s recent history.
At the meeting on the 14th, held at the Ministry of Defense, the political leaders agreed to provide periodic reports to the former presidents on the state of national security related to the situation in Haiti and to promote a unified foreign policy, articulated through meetings among the four.
