Today, June 6, NS trains are not running nationwide due to a strike, the company said in a statement on its website.
The protest affected central areas, including the city of Utrecht, a key hub for the country, through which most rail routes pass and which also coordinates traffic on the entire national network.
However, local media reported that traffic between this capital’s Central Station and Schiphol airport remains open, while international trains continue to operate, with the exception of Eurocity Direct.
Meanwhile, the railroad company’s website published a warning about new strikes, indicating that the next ones are scheduled for June 10 in the western part of the country and June 12 in the northwest and east.
During those days, according to the company, major disruptions to the train schedule are expected.
According to the Dutch Federation of Trade Unions (FNV), the railway workers are demanding a wage increase.
The NS proposed an annual wage increase of 2,55%, which, according to the union, is not in line with inflation in the country.
