Uruguay seeks to send aid safely to Gaza

Montevideo, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan government continues contacts to ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Palestine.

Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin previously announced his intention to send rice and powdered milk to the residents of the Gaza Strip. He also expresed that Uruguayan authorities are considering bringing young Palestinians to Uruguay to train in agricultural production.

Vice Foreign Minister Valeria Csukasi confirmed to the press that the government has begun contacts to ensure that the food aid reaches its destination.

“Uruguay is not making a gesture because it wants to make a gesture, but because it truly wants to contribute, and therefore, we must ensure that the channels of food aid and humanitarian aid reach the people in Gaza, which is unfortunately not happening,” the official said. “The will of the United Nations is not enough; the entry of humanitarian aid must be permitted by Israel,” She added.

A week ago, Minister Lubetkin received the Palestinian Chargé d’Affaires, Mohammed Shafei. “I expressed the Uruguayan government’s solidarity with the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza resulting from the massacre, especially among the civilian population, and the dramatic situation in the West Bank,” he wrote on X.

In recent days, the Broad Front and other political parties that comprise it, have condemned the excesses of the Israeli state toward the Palestinian population.

“A genocide planned by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government against the Palestinian people is being carried out,” said a statement by the Popular Participation Movement, the main political force within the ruling party.

The Israeli embassy criticized a call by the Broad Front to hold mobilizations in solidarity with Palestine, which was rejected by the Secretary of the Presidency, Alejandro Sánchez.
