On social media, they are calling for drives in Atlanta, Burlington, and New York under slogans such as “Get Rid of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement)” and “Stop the Deportations.”
Trump has activated 2,000 National Guard troops over the weekend without the consent of the governor of that western state, Gavin Newsom, or the city’s mayor, Karen Bass.
President Trump suggested that his border czar, Tom Homan, arrest Newsom, which immediately drew criticism from Democrats, including Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, who asserted that “The Trump administration’s escalation and provocation in California is inflaming tensions and inciting violence.”
This is the first time since the 1960s that a US president has mobilized the National Guard without receiving a request from a governor, Democracy Now reported.
White House advisor Stephen Miller, meanwhile, called the protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) an insurrection.
Bass condemned the ICE raids and stated that what is happening in Los Angeles is chaos caused by the current administration.
