During a meeting on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with his counterparts from Oman, Badr al-Busaidi, and Iran, Abbas Aragchi, the Foreign Ministry reported in a statement.
During the meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for diplomatic negotiations and emphasized Egypt’s role in promoting regional dialogue and reducing tensions.
The debate coincides with press reports about imminent Israeli plans to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. Tehran announced yesterday that it would bomb US bases in the region in response to an Israeli attack.
In another parallel meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shibani, Abdelatty reaffirmed his government’s rejection of foreign interference in Syria and condemned the repeated Israeli violations of its sovereignty. He also reaffirmed his support for the Syrian people and his backing for stability, unity, and Syrian national institutions, and emphasized on the need to combat terrorism and address the issue of foreign fighters to safeguard Syria’s long-term stability.
Speaking at the Forum, the minister insisted on ending the war in Gaza, where more than 54,000 deaths have been reported since October 2023. The official advocated for a new ceasefire and the entry of unrestricted humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the territory.
Abdelatty condemned the widespread destruction in Gaza, which he called a deliberate plan to displace the population and expand Israeli control over the occupied Palestinian territories.
