“We agreed on the need to restore relations in accordance with the instructions that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Trump had given during a telephone conversation,” the diplomat said, according to a statement published Thursday on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website.
Darchiev assured the US president that he would do everything possible to restore relations. He also said the meeting was “short but very constructive.”
Relations between Moscow and Washington have been tense since Russia launched a special operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
Since arriving at the White House in January 2025, Trump has held four telephone conversations with the Russian president. Both have highlighted the “excellent” spirit and tone of the talks.
