According to a ministerial statement, the event seeks to foster debate and contribute to the development of a national policy framework that will significantly improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities in South Africa.
These sessions bring together key national stakeholders such as representatives from the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the National Treasury, the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD).
Diplomats from the European Union, employers’ organizations, organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPD), Sectorial Education and Training Authorities (SETA) and various NGOsare attending the meeting.
The Minisry´s document explains that through dialogue, they will explore strategies to create career pathways, address misconceptions and build on existing initiatives such as Supported Employment Enterprises (SEE) to empower people with disabilities.
According to the program, the event includes updates on the social impact of gender-based education, and the quality of products made by people with disabilities
