Russian military point out deficiencies of German tank Leopard 2

Moscow, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) The Russian state corporation Rostec published observations of its experts who detected in the German tank Leopard 2A6 serious deficiencies that make it vulnerable in the conditions of modern warfare.

Rostec specialists, who studied the characteristics of a Leopard 2A6 used by the Ukrainians and captured in the area of the special military operation, identified vulnerabilities in its protection, related both to the thickness and composition of the armor and to the internal arrangement of the device.

The tank’s survivability could be insufficient in the face of attacks from multiple angles by drones equipped with hollow-charge ammunition or modern anti-tank missile systems, Rostec said.

The conclusion of experts is that the Leopard 2’s protection is designed to counter classic anti-tank threats, typical of past decades, but does not fully meet today’s requirements.

Currently, the standard tanks best suited to modern combat are the Russian T-72B3M, T-80BVM and T-90M vehicles.

These have improved protection against drones and anti-tank missile systems from every angle: from anti-explosive grids to dynamic elements and other devices, Rostec says.
