Spanish cinema gala with Ana Belén and Maribel Verdú

Madrid Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) Silent films, Franco's censorship, the uncovering and maturity, a laconic summary of the history of Spanish cinema that celebrates its 129th anniversary this week, as highlighted today in Zaragoza.

Although there will be many and varied references to the different passages of celluloid in Spain in more than a century, such as Carlos Saura, own names of recent decades will occupy spaces of prominence, such as Ana Belen and Maribel Verdu.

Zaragoza’s Teatro Principal will be the stage par excellence for a series of screenings and round tables, focused on the famous film ‘Goya in Bordeaux’ and on the first filmmakers from Aragon, as in the case of Saura.

Ana Belen, stage name of Maria del Pilar Cuesta, a successful singer with a remarkable filmography (La colmena, La Corte del Faraon, Se infiel y no mires a quien, Adios pequeña), will play the leading role of Sunday’s program.

The screening of La Corte de Faraón will recreate Franco’s censorship of the 1940s through sainete, musical and esperpento, elements that made the film very successful.

On the eve, Maribel Verdu (Y tu mamá tambien, El laberinto del fauno, Belle Epoque, Goya en Burdeos) will be present, precisely to talk about Saura’s emblematic film about the illustrious Spanish painter, accompanied by the director of La Estrella Azul, Javier Macipe.
